# Why can’t I drag and drop documents?

If the handlebars are not showing, it is likely because auto sort is enabled. There are a few places to check:

**1. Matter is set to auto sort**

Go to **Setup → Settings** and check the **Document sorting** setting. If it is set to Field: Date or Field: Document name, change it to **Manual / User-defined** and save.

**2. Folder is set to auto sort**

Click on the folder and click the **cog icon**. Check the **Sort all documents automatically by** setting. If it is set to Field: Date, change it to **Manual / User-defined** and click **Update**.

**3. You are viewing Upload History**

The Upload History view does not support manual sorting. Navigate to the folder directly to drag and drop documents.

**4. Freeze numbering is activated on the document**

If a document has a lock icon next to its reference number, freeze numbering is enabled. To remove it, click the **edit icon** next to the document, go to the **Advanced** tab, and set **Restrict actions on this document** to **None**. Click **Update**.
